Frequently Asked Questions
Why is my air conditioner blowing warm air?
The most common causes are low refrigerant (due to a leak), a failed capacitor that won’t let the compressor start, a dirty or restricted condenser coil, or a faulty reversing valve on a heat pump. Low refrigerant is the most frequent culprit — if your system is low on refrigerant, there’s a leak that needs to be found and repaired before the system is recharged.
How often should I have my AC serviced?
Once a year, ideally in spring before cooling season starts. Annual maintenance includes cleaning coils, checking refrigerant charge, testing capacitors and contactors, clearing the condensate drain, and inspecting electrical connections. Skipping annual maintenance is the single biggest factor in premature AC failures.
Why is my AC running constantly but not reaching temperature?
Several issues can cause this: low refrigerant (the system can’t move enough heat), dirty evaporator or condenser coils (blocking heat transfer), a failing compressor, or a system that’s undersized for the space it’s cooling. First check that your filter isn’t clogged — restricted airflow is a common cause. If the filter is fine, call us for a diagnostic.
Is it worth fixing an older air conditioner, or should I replace it?
If your AC is under 10 years old and the repair is reasonable, fix it. If it’s over 15 years old, requires refrigerant (especially R-22 which is expensive and scarce), or needs a compressor replacement that costs more than 50% of a new system, replacement often makes more sense financially. We’ll give you an honest comparison.
Why does my AC smell musty when it runs?
Musty smells from AC systems are almost always caused by mold or mildew growth on the evaporator coil or in the condensate drain pan. This happens when the drain gets partially clogged and moisture sits in the system. We clean the coil and flush the condensate drain — and if the smell persists, we recommend UV light treatment to prevent future mold growth.
